On the Floor
The studio is such a sacred space. In a similar way as the mantra om is considered to embody the “primordial seed of the universe,” the very word studio is an incantation that invokes the creative impulse. The floor in my fourth-floor space bears witness to over a century’s worth of creative industry; I dare not clean it too well.
There are times, though, when I’m tempted to make the space temporarily more presentable for client meetings or wine-and-cheese fêtes. In times like these, modular carpet tiles like Flor seem mighty attractive… as long as I can set them aside when I’m done, and get back to work!
