Birdhouse Gourds
2003, birdhouse gourds, varnish, red and orange flocking, each approximately 10" by 14" by 7".
Long a staple of folk art and functional art, the birdhouse gourd lends itself to being both a symbolic and an actual container. In this case, I envision these gourds as being talismans, or fetishes, serving some as yet undisclosed magical or ritual function.
